JORDYN + PAYTON

HOW DID YOU MEET?

We went to the same high school, but Payton is 2 years older so I didn’t really know him. During his final year of college at the University of Tulsa, he would frequently come down to Norman (our hometown) to visit. I was attending the University of Oklahoma, so I would be out and see him. We started following each other on social media and one day he posted that his Snapchat got hacked— I added him and we quickly started talking daily. One Sunday morning (March 3, 2019 to be exact) he asked me out to brunch. The rest is history. He soon started coming down every weekend until he graduated and moved back to Norman and also met my entire family only a few weeks after dating at my sister’s soccer game. My dad was actually his PE teacher in elementary school!

WHEN DID YOU KNOW THEY WERE THE ONE?

I knew Payton was special early on, for example like when he started tearing up the first time he said “I love you”. And how we spent our entire first summer dating binging Stranger Things as I took care of him after a back surgery. However, I think I truly knew he was the one when he dropped everything and moved with me to a small town so that I may pursue my dream of becoming a doctor (I was admitted to an inaugural medical school class in a small town in Oklahoma). We had been together a little over a year and I know it wasn’t easy for him having to find a new job and make new friends, but he did his best to continue supporting me and showing the value of our relationship.

WHAT ARE YOUR THREE FAVOURITE ATTRIBUTES OF YOUR PARTNER?

His patience, his unwavering support, and his constant quest to make me happy.

WHO PROPOSED AND HOW?

Payton proposed on a vacation in Seaside, Florida with my parents, sister, and my sister’s boyfriend. We had been there two years prior and not long after he started planning this proposal by suggesting we go there again. He met my parents for lunch one day and gave them a card asking for their blessing. On our trip, we had planned to take group photos on the beach and he used this as a reason for us to all be dressed up on the beach at sunset. He and my sister’s boyfriend went down to the beach to set it all up pretending to be getting drinks while I got ready. As we walked out on the boardwalk, you could see Payton down on the beach with “MARRY ME” spelled out in rose petals. I walked down the (many) stairs to the beach and as I approached, he started crying. He gave the most kind, loving speech and brought out a perfect ring as he got down on one knee. It was the best proposal I could’ve imagined!

WHERE DID YOU FALL IN LOVE WITH YOUR DRESS AND WHY?

I knew I was very interested in MWL prior to going to try on dresses. I actually thought I wanted to wear the Lola dress! I went to my first (and only) dress store— Chantilly Bridal Studio in Oklahoma City— and tried on 8 dresses. Most of them were MWL, and on my 8th dress, I tried on the Cameron dress. I actually hadn’t really considered this one originally, but I immediately knew it was the one!! The veil wings were the unique touch that screamed “Jordyn”. The sample size was actually the size I ordered, so it looked perfect even then! The intricate sparkles, lace, and veil wings were everything I could’ve wanted.

WHAT WAS THE BEST MOMENT FOR YOU AT THE WEDDING?

Our private vows and first look was the best moment from our wedding day. My husband isn’t a super emotional guy, but the two days I’ve seen him cry (like really cry) were the day he proposed and on our wedding day. It shows me how deep his love is for me and makes me so happy/honored to be his wife. It had felt like an eternity without him after saying goodnight the night prior and not seeing him until the next afternoon. He had John Legend “Nervous” playing and I could see that he was starting to cry before I even tapped his shoulder to turn around. At first he was speechless and could barely look at me without crying, and we just embraced. After a little bit of admiring each other, we went and sat on a bench under a magnolia tree and read our vows to one another. It was so special. It was still equally as special walking down the aisle to him!! “Can’t Help Falling in Love” played by Kina Grannis and I lived out my dream since watching Crazy Rich Asians LOL.

WHAT WERE YOUR FAVORITE DETAILS?

My flowers— especially my bouquet (I’m getting it preserved). The disco balls EVERYWHERE. The streamers I made that hung outside. The cake was beautiful and a big hit. I loved my husband’s shoe change for the reception into Nikes that look like dress shoes. The veil wings and dress were a big hit among guests! A detail that I had no control over was the DREAMY sunset that mashed our colors beautifully and showed our loved ones who have passed were there in spirit.

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU TELL OTHER BRIDES?

As you’re planning your wedding, drown out the extra voices as best as you can (especially the negative ones). It’s all about you and your fiancé and your love story/big day. Things will go against the plan/schedule on your big day, but you’ll be having so much fun you won’t care!
